Brandon Cordrey is a mixed media artist living in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He earned his BFA from East Carolina University in Painting and Drawing.
Professionally, Brandon has worked with three galleries, two museums, and multiple arts nonprofits in development, exhibition design, and executive director capacities. Nowadays, when he is not in the studio, he’s enjoying life with a tiny human, husband, and dog.
artist statement
My work considers the information we churn through in our everyday lives—its amount and effect. Technology and the internet allow us to access lots of information immediately and continuously, but quantity doesn’t equal quality. And having so much information doesn’t result in a better-informed public. With so much information in our hands, you’d think we’d know more. Alas, we (including myself) choose TV channels, podcasts, and talk-radio stations that reinforce what we already believe rather than encourage us to consider what we immediately dismiss. With all of this information—and all the yelling, spinning, cursing, lying— statements go unchecked, opinions become fact, offensive language is forgotten with the next day’s headlines, and everything becomes subjective.
My current works are meant to visually represent, create caricatures of, or comment on the United States’ current political and social climate and the polarizing coverage of non-political issues.
